Manchmal klopft das Glück einfach an die Tür.
Neulich standen bei Ana und Ritinha in Fortaleza 20 prall gefüllte Pakete vor dem Haus der Kinderhilfe: Zucker, Reis, Milch, Kekse, Mehl, Bohnen, Couscous, Nudeln. Kein Luxus — aber genau die Dinge, die vielen Familien in der Favela oft fehlen.
Dahinter steckt Georgia. Sie lebt in Deutschland, hat brasilianische Wurzeln und hat bei ihrem runden Geburtstag etwas Besonderes getan: keine Geschenke, sondern Spenden für unsere Kinder. Mit dem gesammelten Geld kaufte sie Lebensmittel und brachte sie bei ihrem Besuch persönlich zu uns.
Wie sie zu uns fand? Auf einer Party in Frankfurt traf Georgia zufällig eine Ärztin aus Berlin. Im Gespräch über Kinder, Gesundheit und Brasilien erzählte die Ärztin von unserer Arbeit in Fortaleza. Georgia meldete sich für unseren Newsletter an, spendete regelmäßig ein kleines „Taschengeld“ — und als ihre Brasilien-Reise feststand, wollte sie die Unterstützung sichtbar machen.
Beim Besuch im Haus der Kinderhilfe lernte sie Ana und Ritinha kennen. Sie sah die Räume, hörte die Geschichten der Kinder und Familien, spürte die Verantwortung, die unsere Arbeit trägt. Am meisten berührte sie, dass ehemalige Kinder heute mit eigenem Beruf zurückkommen, um den Jüngeren zu helfen — ein Kreislauf der Hoffnung.Oder wie Georgia es sagte: „Educação é esperança.“ Bildung ist Hoffnung.
Für unsere Familien bedeuten diese Pakete mehr als ein paar volle Teller. Sie bedeuten Luft holen, durchatmen, ein paar Tage weniger Sorgen. Und das Gefühl, gesehen zu werden.

Sometimes luck just knocks on your door.
The other day, Ana and Ritinha in Fortaleza found 20 bulging packages outside the Kinderhilfe house: sugar, rice, milk, cookies, flour, beans, couscous, pasta. Not luxury items — but exactly what many families in the favela often lack.
Behind this gesture is Georgia. She lives in Germany, has Brazilian roots. For her milestone birthday, she did something wonderful and heartwarming: she asked for donations instead of gifts. With the funds, she bought food and delivered everything in person during her trip to Brazil.
How did she find us? At a party in Frankfurt, Georgia happened to meet a doctor from Berlin. Talking about children, health, and Brazil, she heard about our work in Fortaleza. She subscribed to our newsletter, began making small regular donations — and when her Brazil trip was confirmed, she wanted to turn that support into something tangible.
During her visit to the house of Kinderhilfe Fortaleza, she met Ana and Ritinha, saw the facilities, heard the stories of the children and families, and felt both the weight and even more the purpose of our work.
What moved her most: former students now return, established in their professions, to help the younger ones — a cycle of hope.
As Georgia said: “Educação é esperança.” Education is hope.
For our families, these packages mean more than a few full plates. They mean a breath of relief, a few days with fewer worries — and the feeling of being seen, supported, and part of a community where people care for each other.
